Thursday, July 12

Managed to catch quite a few movies over the last couple of months. Here’s a quick review of what I thought of the flicks.
Spiderman 3

I thought it was a little too lighthearted – especially since this installment was supposed to bring out the darker Spidey. Too many corny lines and silly situations, and not enough [...]

300

Wednesday, March 28

We’ve been busy with the new place over the past few weekends, but managed to catch 300.
Frank Miller’s graphic novel about the Battle of Thermopylae has been masterfully brought to life on celluloid in the hands of director Zack Snyder, and beautifully coloured by Lynn Varley (who used to be married to Frank Miller). Found [...]

Bloody good, ah

Tuesday, January 23

Watched Blood Diamond last weekend. I have to say, I’m becoming increasingly impressed with Leo. I never said he was a lousy actor – actually, quite the contrary – but there’s just something about him that irked me. Maybe it was his sickeningly soppy role in Titanic. What a waste of time and talent that [...]

Speaking of moles…

Wednesday, October 25

Watched The Departed last weekend. Another gangster flick by the legendary Martin Scorsese (will somebody give him an Oscar already?). The film is actually a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong hit Infernal Affairs, co-directed by Mak Siu Fai and Lau Wai Keung.
Storyline is brilliant (too bad someone else did it first, Marty), nicely [...]

Saturday at the movies

Sunday, July 16

Watched two movies yesterday. The first – Murderball, was Colin’s choice, and the second – Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, we both wanted to watch. Turned out to be a bit of a surprise as I actually enjoyed Murderball more than I did Pirates.
Murderball is a fast-paced MTV-esque documentary, co-directed by Dana Adam [...]

Up up and away

Sunday, July 2

Though it’s been 19 years since the last Superman movie, hearing the first few notes of the theme song still made my heart beat faster. I was a bit apprehensive when I first saw the trailer a few months back but Bryan Singer did good and I really liked Superman Returns. And it has nothing [...]

Schnikt!

Saturday, May 27

Apart from the numbnut next to me who was providing his girlfriend with a running commentary, I rather enjoyed X-Men: The Last Stand (a.k.a. X-Men 3 here in Singapore). Comic book fans might call it sacrilege, but it was entertaining. We even get to see Wolverine and Colossus do the Fastball Special.
Quite a few more [...]

Remember, remember, the fifth of November

Friday, April 14

If you haven’t already seen V for Vendetta, go get your tickets now.
The movie is an adaptation of a comic book series written by Alan Moore. Screenplay by the Wachowski brothers, directed by James McTeigue, produced by Joel Silver, starring Hugo Weaving and Natalie Portman – gotta be good (but not as good as Sin [...]

Bite me

Sunday, March 5

Just watched Underworld Evolution. I liked the first one better. What’s with the lame vampires, man? Except for Marcus who could fly, all the other ones seemed to be able to do was scratch and hiss. It’s gonna take more than halitosis to deal with a snarling werewolf. Plus, the theme of world domination is [...]
